Hands-On with the New MacBook

Hands-On with the New MacBookToday I get to play with the new MacBook. The first thing I noticed was “Where is the touchpad button?” The all-glass touchpad is new which introduced into the new sleek MacBook. However, when you press down on the touchpad, it actually feels like a button, you could hear the sound as if you are pressing the button. Also for Windows users, there is a setting to set an area of the touchpad to serve as a right-click with a single tap.

MacBook Air slashed by $500

MacBook Air slashed by $500

Apple is now selling its paper-like MacBook Air for $2598, down from the $3098. The cut was the result of a cut in price for two of the MacBook’s components. The Intel Core 2 Duo processor upgrade for the Air’s 1.8GHz was reduced 50% to only $100. The second reasons being that cost of the Flash memory based 64GB SDD drive upgrade to $599 from $999 since Mitron developed cheap SSD with up to 128GB. That’s nearly a 50% slash of the original price. Customers may now configure a 1.6GHz MacBook Air with a SDD Drive starting from as low as $2398.

Microsoft announced Office Mac 2008 availability - Newly Release

Microsoft announced Office Mac 2008 availabilityIn the 2008 Macworld Conference, Microsoft’s Macintosh Business Unit officially announced that Office 2008 is now available for Mac computers. With improved interface and easy-to-use features, even Office beginners can create great-looking documents very quickly.

As we all know, Mac software are NOT cheap, expensive in my opinion! For Mac Office 2008, $399.95 for full retail and $239.95 for upgrade. A sales tag of $400 is about one third of a MacBook’s price! If you add Adobe CS on top, it might cost more than the laptop itself! If you’re a money saver like me, you can get the Open Office 2 or Apple iWork 08 which is a better deal. I admit that Office 2008 provides additional specific features that beats any other software. Your decision!

Some MacBook hard drives contain fatal defect, according to report

Some MacBook hard drives contain fatal defectWe’ve been hearing vague rumblings about potentially flawed MacBook hard drives for a day or two now, but a report from UK data-recovery firm Retrodata finally backs up all the noise with some hard data — according to the company, revision 7.0.1 Seagate drives manufactured in China have defective read / write heads that can become detached and slide across the surface of the platters, making recovery impossible. Apple says it’s only received “a few reports” of the problem, but Retrodata says the issue is severe enough to warrant a recall. MacBook users will want to fire up Apple System Profiler ASAP and check under the Serial-ATA listing to see what kind of drive they have — and probably start backing things up, just to be safe.
