Fresno schools buy 1,000 Eee PC to the students - Lucky Kids!!
Fresno Unified School District recently snagging 1,000 of the laptops in an attempt to boost student scores. Personally, I think the kids will use it to play games / surfing the web rather than use it as educational purposes.
According the Chronicle, it seems that Asus has officially launched its $299 2G Surf model a little ahead of the January date we first heard about.

Rogers ISP of Canada takes the action to break into your browsing session to give you a warning saying your bandwidth is approaching its threshold! I’m a Rogers’ customer and I think I would NOT want to see this on my browser. Personally, there are other ways to inform the client about their Internet traffic is too high.
Traditional Email to the customers.
During online payment from Rogers.com, give us a bandwidth usage info. Currently, you have to click, not in the bill.
Actually, thinking more about this overnight, this is probably even less of a privacy invasion or data sniffing than I originally thought. I asked how I would do something like this and the first thing that came to mind was a browser add-in that went to Rogers and checked my quota and expanded itself into a big message when it saw I was near a threshold…

The Lamborghini Reventón may not be a reinvention, but there’s no doubt that it is very unique with the sharp edges and huge air intakes. There are only 20 made worldwide. (Pic: Reventón vs Panavia Tornado jet-fighter - of course, Lambo lost) Today we are not going to talk about the specs of this car, I’m sure you can find the detail specs else where. Let’s focus on the TFT display looks like an airplane.
Designed and created using Alcantara, carbon, aluminum, and leather that comply with the top quality standards, the interior is inspired by the next generation cockpits: just like in modern airplanes. Read the rest of this entry »

Few days ago, we mentioned that Dreamcast II might rejoin the Game Console War. Rumors were running rampant this week when Sega update its trademark on its old school Dreamcast console name. A Goood sign! Many thought this was a sure sign that Sega (game pioneer) was getting a Dreamcast 2 ready to battle the other console giants.
The trademark covers a wide gamut of products from controllers to the game console itself.

As John Chow said: “You knew the signs were not good when AGLOCO didn’t renew their SSL certificate. It’s a really bad sign because a SSL cert really isn’t that expensive.” Let’s flash back to about 8 years ago, where I was a teen and got my 1st cheque from AllAdvantage (View Online Ads Affiliate Program) I remember as I got a fair amount of referrals with a monthly profit of over $150, the company closed down! Then AGLOCO is the reincarnation of AllAdvantage (Formed by some of the same founders), a Web 1.0 company that paid users for viewing advertising through a toolbar. The founders, who blamed the stock crash in 2000 for the AllAdvantage faiure, claimed they’d get it right this time around. In particular, the ability to highly target advertising would allow them to generate enough revenue for a sustainable business. Read the rest of this entry »

As of today, this is the best Asus Eee PC mod I’ve seen and this surely beats the $499 Eee PC 8GB, which has just 8GB of storage / shared video. EeeUser forum’s brave member Johnx took the $140 16GB Corsair Flash Voyager (plus a Bluetooth unit) and ran them off the USB connections from the Mini PCIe ports to make a 20GB, Bluetooth capable transformer of an Eee UMPC. Would you do this if you have a unit?

We know someone who’s been using a pirated copy of software because some of us are poor students who can’t afford legal license of those expensive software. While it admits it’s not possible to pin down an exact number, Microsoft has unveiled the estimated counterfeit of Vista to be about half that of XP, a figure that it seems to be more than pleased with. Of course, one could interpret those numbers in slightly less positive ways, but Microsoft claims the sharp dip in piracy is due to Vista’s amped up authentication system, which it says is a “proven and effective way to combat piracy.” To come up with the numbers, Microsoft relied on the Windows Genuine Advantage validation failures, as well as other unspecified internal data. In reality, the number is much higher as there are ways to fool the WGA.

How much would you sell your blog for? A Malaysian blogger, Bob Jiwakacau, sold his 5 month old but outstanding rankings blog “blog oh blog” (let’s call it Bob) for whopping USD$10,000.
Blog Oh Blog is very young (5 month old) and do not have high traffic (1000+ visitors/day), but it received good rankings such as PageRank 6, Technorati No.44, and Alexa 35,331.
How did the blog ranked so high so fast?
One of the main reasons is because the blog received many incoming links from other blogs. Bob created some popular free WordPress themes. Every blog that uses his theme will link to his blog in the theme footer. Through Bob, he got some “Private Projects” by helping clients to design their websites. ($2000 @ last month) It is not easy to have a blog in Technorati Top 50. Bob did that by offering free high quality WordPress themes. He has received the fruit of his hard work now. However, I think USD10,000 for the blog is under priced.

A number of Asus Eee ultra-portable computers have shipped with a devil “Warranty Void If Removed” on the memory access door. This label might have rebuked users who otherwise wanted to upgrade their Eee with more memory (normally 512MB or 1GB for the 4G models ~ $349.99. Up to 2GB with hack).
It says: “Asus wishes to assure its customers that merely breaking or removing this kind of seal will not void the Asus Limited Warranty” (full press release, Asus Eee page).
