Athlete’s Gadget: USB Shoe Drives

Athlete’s Gadget: USB Shoe Drives

What’s the relationship between shoe and USB? Don’t be surprised if you see a USB Shoe Drive at a retail store. These USB shoes come in 1, 2, or 4GB of storage, making it not only stylish, but fairly useful. They come in basketball and futbol varieties, meaning that if you’re more of a baseball fan, you need to wait for the next version.

Canon Film-based EOS SLR vs. Digital EOS DSLR

Canon Film-based EOS SLR vs. Digital EOS DSLR

About 20 years ago, Canon released the first Film-based EOS SLR. It took Canon over 20 years to sell 30 million EOS where as they already sold 10 million EOS DSLR in 7 years. I think the 1987 camera doesn’t look like a camera from the 80s - Congrats Canon.

Wikipedia: In March of 1987, Canon’s 50th anniversary, the company introduced the EOS 650 AF SLR camera, the first model of the EOS series. The EOS 650 incorporated the world’s first fully electronic mount system.

Sony dumping all rear-projection TVs to focus on LCDs?

Sony dumping all rear-projection TVs to focus on LCDs?Rumor: Sony is planning to discontinue sales of all rear-projection HDTVs, after current inventories are exhausted to focus on the hot-selling Bravia LCD lines. This Week in Consumer Electronics is reporting that a Sony spokesperson has told them that “We are moving our resources more toward LCD TV, because that’s what people really want.” In addition, Sony’s making a “no promises” effort to fill backorders for the KDF46E3000 and KDS60A3000. The move isn’t exactly unprecedented or even all that surprising — Sony simply joins Toshiba, Philips and Hitachi, who have all stopped producing rear-projection sets. However, Sony’s SXRDs were still extremely popular and it’s strange to see them get dropped just like that.

Q: Would you buy rear-projection TV or the main stream TV like LCD or Plasma?

5 Simple Ways To Speed Up Windows Vista

5 Simple Ways To Speed Up Windows Vista

As a technician in ComputerSquad (Geek Squad’s Competitor), one of the most common questions I encountered is “Why my computer is so slow?” Things tend to save and install into our computers from time to time, either we aware of it or not. These things (i.e. spyware) accumulate and eventually the computer performace deteriorates.

Windows Vista (Standard OS)

Windows Vista is a rather heavy operating system (OS) with many neat features, but unfortunately they all come at a price. Right out of the box it requires a pretty hefty system to run (arguably). 2GB of RAM is the minimum although some laptops equipped with only 512MB because to lower the price! Therefore, before you run out and buy a new computer just so you can run your base operating system, check out these 5 Simple Ways To Speedup Windows Vista tips to lighten the load. I have 10 Tricks but I will save some until next time, just absorb this 5 Tips first ;)

1. Turn off UAC, or at least make it less annoying

Now, there’s ton to talk about the new user account control policy in Vista, and all I can say is: it annoys the hell out of me and slows down my normal computer usage. Do you realize it flash your video card to a black screen, take 5 seconds and really just make itself a royal pain in the arse? (I know this is all about security = BS)

  1. To turn it off, the easiest way is to go into the Control Panel and type in ‘UAC’ into the search bar. It’ll bring up a search result of ‘Turn User Account Control (UAC) on or off’. Just follow the prompts from there.
  2. To keep UAC, let’s just turn off the crazy annoying blacking out screen bit. To do this:
  • Open group policy (start | run | gpedit.msc)
  • then navigate to Computer Configuration | Windows Settings | Security Settings | Local Policies | Security Options
  • Find the policy named ‘User Account Control: Switch to the secure desktop when prompting for elevation’. Set this to disabled.

2. Disable Aero

I personally do not do this just because this is one unique feature that’s distinct from XP, but I realize fancy feature comes with a price. It does tend to eat up both RAM and CPU usage - laptops battery seems to drain faster :(

Intel Z-P140 PATA penny-sized 4GB SSD

Intel Z-P140 PATA penny-sized 4GB SSD

Solid State Drives are well known for their petite size and low power consumption, you might have heard about it many times already. But this Intel Z-P140 PATA is worth noting. Intel managed to cram 4GB on a surface that is equivalent to a penny, this is pretty impressive, although not surprising given current advances in semi-conductor manufacturing. Today, many music players use 1.8” drives that have a much larger capacity (60GB), but the Z-P140 has very interesting qualities:

  • 400x smaller for 15x less capacity
  • 75 times lighter
  • More shock resistant

Quick specs:

  • Parallel ATA interface (PATA)
  • 2GB and 4GB capacity
  • 40Mbytes/sec (read), 30Mbytes/sec (write)
  • 300mW (1.1mW in sleep mode)

$19.99 Remote Control Helicopter

$19.99 Remote Control HelicopterIf you’re on a budget and would like to get a Cool Christmas gift for your nephew or some kids, I strongly recommend this amazing toy! Picoo Z The remote controlled helicopter fits comfortably into the palm of your hand weighing a mere 10g. (Due to the super lightweight design, indoor is the only option) A 20 minute charge direct from the controller gives 10 minutes flight time with flashing lights. It’s robust yet light polypropylene structure makes it easy to fly and extremely robust.

Once you have mastered the Picoo Z (it’s hard to get the hang of it initially), the more competitive amongst you may want to try challenging another two of your friends to a PicooZ race or sky battle, made possible with their tri-band technology (Up to 3 Simultaneous Planes in the air).

Combine all this with an auto-stability system and precision speed; the PicooZ is quite simply superb.

I picked up one from Wal-mart for $19.99CDN

One thing that’s kind of disappointed is the bulky remote control, it is a bit oversized if I’m a kid or teen.

Streaming Internet radio coming soon to PSP

Streaming Internet radio coming soon to PSP

With the update to firmware 3.80 (available for download on December 18th.), the Sony PSP becomes a streaming Internet radio device. The “fun” details, like when we can expect a U.S. release or just what the relation is between Sony and Shoutcast, aka AOL, are nowhere to be found as yet. RSS will now support OPML file. You can subscribe to multiple channels which is saved in opml file. And now, RSS will also support picture. You can now schedule 1Seg TV tuner to record your favorite show at a certain time.

Iron Man Video Game Trailer. Plus Lego Iron Man

Iron Man Video GameWhen I was watching at the Iron Man Trailer, it looks so real that at one point I thought it’s a movie! Actually from Wikipedia, there is a Iron Man Movie in 2008 as well. I’m already getting antsy about it, but according to what I’ve seen we have a wait ahead of us. The game supposedly will be shipping June 24th, 2008. Do you think there will be more Marvel Comics characters put in the Big Screen?
