New Asus Eee PC 1000 (Picture)

New Asus Eee PC 1000The new Atom-powered Asus Eee PC 1000 comes with a whopping 40GB of SSD or 80GB hard drive. (Personally, I prefer SSD for the less energy consumption and shock resistant, however it will be more expensive than HD) The question is shall you wait for PC 1000 or is it ok to get the PC 901? It’s tough to decide…

Dell Mini Inspiron or Mini XPS?

Dell Mini Inspiron or Mini XPS?

When comes to UMPC, most of you think the Asus Eee PC? Well, Dell wants to jump onto the mini UMPC bandwagon as well, with a mini Inspiron (not the official name as there is no announcement from Dell just yet) being the fruit of their labors. There’s no word on what operating system will this diminutive computer run on, nor how much it will cost, but it does feature a trio of USB 2.0 ports, a memory card reader, VGA out, and an Ethernet port. To satisfy both parties, Dell should offer both Windows and Linux where Linux have lower price tag. Do you think this will be Atom-powered, and just how much internal memory will it hold?

Eee PC 900 Unboxed (Video)

As you all been waiting for, you can watch a short review about the latest Asus Eee PC 900. The 8.9-inch Eee PC is identical to the original 7-inch one with a few improvements. The screen and the trackpad are bigger, which in combo should almost justify the price upgrade, and you ave to include the 12GB SSD. The weight (under 1kg) has bee maintained, which is good, and battery life, according to the guy talking in the video, it is similar to the original Eee PC. The specs says multitouch trackpad but I guess this wasn’t shown on video.

Specs:

8.9 inch 1024 x 600 screen
Intel Celeron 900Mhz
1GB RAM
12GB SSD
1.3 mega pixel webcam
big multitouch trackpad
12v charger brick

ASUS is the Most Hated Company In the PC Industry

ASUS is the Most Hated Company In the PC Industry

Taiwan’s Asustek, better known as ASUS. It is one of the most interesting, innovative and fastest-growing companies in technology.

Why Microsoft, Amazon, HP and Dell hate ASUS?

ASUS is the creator of Eee PC Mini Laptop. It’s compact, flexible and the best part is the price - costs as little as $299. This attractive price tag is less than Apple’s 16GB iPod Touch, Amazon Kindle e-book reader and certainly less than any full-functional laptops in the market. (Read the high rating reviews)

Fujitsu’s notebook, P1620 lighter than MacBook Air (Pictures)

Although the Macbook Air is the world’s thinnest notebook, but it still weighs over 2.5lbs. The newly announced Fujitsu’s P1620 would be a better choice if weight is matters to you and also for those who prefer PC environment than the Mac environment. Note: This is Tablet PC (UMPC). The P1620 weighs 2.2 pounds with a 3-cell battery and 2.5 pounds with a 6-cell battery.

CES 2008: WiBraid B1 UMPC

WiBraid B1 is no stranger to Wikigiz, in fact, we wrote about the B1 Teeny UMPC on Dec. 1.

CES 2008: WiBraid B1 UMPC

Let’s recap the detail: WiBrain is a full function ultra mobile pc weighing in at about 1.15-pounds. There’s a 4.8-inch WSVGA touch screen display between a split keyboards. There’s a cute pop-up video camera on top of the unit.

CES 2008: iRiver Touchscreen Wing UMPC

CES 2008: iRiver Touchscreen Wing UMPC

This little cute UMPC is built for portability and style. It has a 4-inch touchscreen, 4GB of Flash storage and full QWERTY keyboard. I think the tiny 4-inch screen is abit too small for some people - like me, but sure it’s lightweight. iRiver’s press release has it down as running embedded Linux Kernel 2.6 with SD expansion slot should be plenty for some compact Linux apps. Perhaps you can install Windows on this baby just like the Asus Eee PC.

Turn Asus Eee PC to 20GB ($550)

Turn Asus Eee PC to 20GB ($550)

As of today, this is the best Asus Eee PC mod I’ve seen and this surely beats the $499 Eee PC 8GB, which has just 8GB of storage / shared video. EeeUser forum’s brave member Johnx took the $140 16GB Corsair Flash Voyager (plus a Bluetooth unit) and ran them off the USB connections from the Mini PCIe ports to make a 20GB, Bluetooth capable transformer of an Eee UMPC. Would you do this if you have a unit?

Asus allows Eee memory upgrade (picture)

ASUS allows Eee memory upgrade (picture)

A number of Asus Eee ultra-portable computers have shipped with a devil “Warranty Void If Removed” on the memory access door. This label might have rebuked users who otherwise wanted to upgrade their Eee with more memory (normally 512MB or 1GB for the 4G models ~ $349.99. Up to 2GB with hack).

It says: “Asus wishes to assure its customers that merely breaking or removing this kind of seal will not void the Asus Limited Warranty” (full press release, Asus Eee page).

With Asus announced 3.8 million Eee PCs next year, I think many of us would want to buy one next year because it’s cheaper than some PDAs / iPod Touch.
