Paramount and Universal finally go with Blu-ray. HD DVD goes to Deadpool

As Toshiba announced that HD DVD goes to the deadpool. The format war is over, Blu-ray is the Big Winner. I guess there’s no other option but to go with Blu-ray. Universal’s president Craig Kornblau said: “While Universal values the close partnership we have shared with Toshiba, it is time to turn our focus to releasing new and catalog titles on Blu-ray.”

Palm closing retail stores, paying out Treo owners [Deadpool]

palm_logo.jpgPalm announced on Wednesday that it has decided to close its retail stores as it faces the effects of a class-action lawsuit filed by Treo owners. The company’s 34 stores including eight Palm-branded locations and 26 stores that were inside Airport Wireless outposts will have to go by the end of the current quarter.

In addition, as part of the settlement of a class-action suit filed back in 2005, Palm agreed to give cash rebates for the Treo 600 and 650 owners who have had their units replaced or repaired at least twice.

For the past years, Palm’s market share is decreasing compared to RIM and other smartphone/PDA manufacturers so as their stock price. Their new products weren’t impressed neither and even a geek like me would not consider their products unless they have some new things that I’ve overlooked or coming out soon.

Analog cell phone network going off air, joins the deadpool

Analog cell-phone network going off airAnalog cell phone got to face the reality and begin to fade off the digital world. What the Scarsdale, N.Y., resident didn’t know was that the OnStar system in the car was already doomed and goes to deadpool. The federal government decided in 2002 to let cellular carriers shut down analog cell phone networks, used by Rothman’s Saab and about 500,000 other OnStar-equipped cars, after Feb. 18, 2008.

It’s the end of the nationwide network that launched the U.S. wireless industry 24 years ago, and it leaves a surprising number of users in the lurch. Perhaps a million cell phones will lose service, but those are cheap and easy to replace. The effects will be felt the most by people who have things that aren’t phones but have built-in wireless capabilities, like OnStar cars and home alarm systems.

AGLOCO Joins The Deadpool

AGLOCO Joins The DeadpoolAs John Chow said: “You knew the signs were not good when AGLOCO didn’t renew their SSL certificate. It’s a really bad sign because a SSL cert really isn’t that expensive.” Let’s flash back to about 8 years ago, where I was a teen and got my 1st cheque from AllAdvantage (View Online Ads Affiliate Program) I remember as I got a fair amount of referrals with a monthly profit of over $150, the company closed down! :( Then AGLOCO is the reincarnation of AllAdvantage (Formed by some of the same founders), a Web 1.0 company that paid users for viewing advertising through a toolbar. The founders, who blamed the stock crash in 2000 for the AllAdvantage faiure, claimed they’d get it right this time around. In particular, the ability to highly target advertising would allow them to generate enough revenue for a sustainable business. Read the rest of this entry »

Should Blockbuster in the Deadpool?

Should Blockbuster in the Deadpool? As in-store video rental era has been rapidly diminished, should Blockbuster fall into the Deadpool? Unable to fight off new competition from say Netflix, kiosks, Cable TV on-demand, and losing marketshare to dastardly P2P downloaders, Blockbuster is losing money and it has closed 526 stores in the past year, and the number of employees will be reduced to offset high operation costs to the tune of $45 million!

Tell us what ya think… Did you got hit by those late fees from Blockbuster before?

If they are really closing, most likely there could be some huge DVD/Video games sales?! I’m waiting for that…

Yang Shuts Down Yahoo 360—Nobody Notices

Yahoo! 360Yahoo is finally going to pull the plug on its stillborn social network, Yahoo 360. Jerry Yang even mentioned it in a blog post on October 16: “Our new decision-making framework also informed what we’d no longer invest in…, we intend to transition Yahoo! 360 to a more integrated Yahoo! “profile” experience.” But it wasn’t just us. I could find hardly a mention of it anywhere.
