Apple 3G iPhone starts $199 8G, $299 16G

As you might have seen in the Apple’s big announcement, the 3G iPhone will be released on July 11! This includes Canada, and the price for an 8GB 3G iPhone will be a scant $199, while the 16GB version will only set you back $299! This is only partially surprising: first, the hardware itself is cheaper than the one in the original iPhone. Apple also had the time to cost-reduce its hardware platform and negotiate better prices overall.
Finally, the real money that Apple will make is in the wireless subscriptions, not the hardware itself. Apple wants to compete with Blackberry and to increase the market share! Overall, I think this is a good move - not only benefit us as consumers but it benefits the 3rd party software developers, and phone service carriers.

That’s only when you are a new Roger customer. Exisitng customer got charged for a much higher price. Also, the $30 Data Plan is for exisitng customer and not for new customers. SO, nobody is getting the advertised $199/$299 iPhones AND the $30 DATA PLAN !!!!!

You’re correct Michael. That’s why I didn’t get the iPhone even I’m an existing Rogers customer. The monthly data plan is way too expensive!

Im an exsiting customer and i had no problem upgrading to the Iphone for the list price of 299 for the 16G. I aslo was able to keep the 25 bux plan i was on. I have no need for the wireless or any of that shit. Only want it for the phone and music, since my original Ipod broke, why not just get 2 in one. Stop complaining becasue you cant afford it. Work overtime.

Hey anwar. For $199, you have to get the monthly plan. To avoid the data plan fee, you can get the unlock phone which is more expensive. Cheers.
