OpenOffice.org 3.0 Beta released / downloaded

written by: Dr_Gadget | category: Tech News | posted: 03/23/08

Since I wrote about Ubuntu 8.04 in the last post, it’s worth to mention OpenOffice 3.0 Beta. Note: This is only Beta and it’s not 100% stable nor fully tested. But some of you want to get your hands on the latest stuff. You can now download OpenOffice 3.0 from list of OpenOffice mirrors, choose a download site, and then find the Developer folder and the DEV300 supfolder and you should be able to download a Windows, Linux, or even Mac installer (hey, Apple’s fans).

OpenOffice.org 3.0 Beta released / downloaded

What’s new for 3.0 where 2.3.1 doesn’t have?

  • Multi-page view in Writer
  • Office 2007 document support
  • New Calc theme
  • Maximum number of columns in Calc jumps from 256 to 1024
  • Multiple users can edit spreadsheets simultaneously

Estimated that OpenOffice 3.0 will be available in September, 2008.

Is it the case that OO-dev.3.0 will not run on Hardy at this point. I downloaded the .deb version currently available, and cannot figure out any way to launch it.
