How to Reduce FireFox Memory Usage to 10MB

As you know Firefox is a beast when it comes to RAM consumption. It eats up your computer memory when more tabs opened. There are some memory optimizing techniques (e.g. edit Firefox config file) to reduce the memory usage in Firefox, but still it doesn’t significantly reduce the memory usage.

Firefox Ultimate Optimizer is a tiny program runs concurrently with the Firefox to limit its memory resources usage. I tried this application and it really decrease the memory consumption to less than 10MB. However, my browser performance also deteriorated as well. When I am switching tabs (having 10+ webpages on) - I experienced a delay and also scrolling up and down a page is slow. My computer is running Windows XP with 2GB of RAM.

Instruction:

1. Download the .zip file from here
2. Extract it to a separate folder.
3. Start Firefox Ultimate Optimizer.exe, it will be minimized to taskbar. (see below)

For me, speed is more important to memory so I will research more about how to reduce memory usage for Firefox and let you guys know!

I have been using this s/w. While I find it reduces the RAM a whole lot, it seems to compensate with higher CPU usage. Have you noticed anything like that?

You may want to try this tool as well, called Minimem: http://minimem.kerkia.net. It does the same but more:
    - Can optimize other apps too
    - Smaller footprint though it does more
    - User-defined frequency of memory reduction
    - … and it’s not referenced as adware by Kaspersky!
I use it on my old computer and it works like a charm with Firefox and a few more apps.
It seems to work by moving to disk unused memory pages. I guess it could slow down the app in principle but have not noticed that. Quite the contrary, as FF uses less memory now, my other apps are faster!
