Bicycle Powered Mobile Phone Center - CellPhone Charger (Video)
written by: Michael Kwan | category: LifeStyle | posted: 01/20/08At Sioux Falls, South Dakota - a developing country where cell phones are not too common. A company named Llamadassa has put together a Bicycle Powered Mobile Phone Center for the citizen. The idea is cool since it does not require AC power, transporting the phone center charges the battery and the battery can be charged while the center is in stationary by lifting the wheel off the ground.
Because this bike is built for the developing world they had to use parts that could be easily found. To generate the electricity we used an old car alternator that delivers electricity generated to a car battery. The electricity stored in the battery is accessed by an old computer UPS (I have a couple of UPS and they are heavy!) to convert the electricity to 110V.Personally, I like the $12 Wind Up Phone Charger (Crank), because the size is much smaller, lightweight and cheaper. Just connect a number of these devices to a UPS for power storage, it does a similar job right?
