Personally, I don’t really like speakers overwhelming my small living room, unless they are in-wall and in-ceiling speakers. Polk Audio aims to impress at this year’s CES with their spanking new $1,199.95 SurroundBar 360 DVD Theater. This two-piece surround sound system comes with a single, attractive SurroundBar 360 multichannel loudspeaker (44 1/2″ W x 4 7/8″ D x 4 1/8″ H) as well as a separate, compact electronics console (16 1/2″ W x 11 1/2″ D x 3 3/16″ H) that holds a built-in DVD/CD player, SDA signal-processing amplifier, and an AM/FM radio. The list isn’t complete just yet, as the SurroundBar 360 also boasts a multitude of digital, analog, USB, and video inputs to get you connected. Let’s check out the pros and cons.
Pros: Sleek single-speaker surround system; five speakers in one; extruded-aluminum cabinet; flexible setup options; nonreflective virtual-surround effect works regardless of room design and layout; wall-mount bracket. Impressive quality of sound.
Cons: Somewhat pricey; hardly an ideal choice for music lovers; you still need to invest in a subwoofer.
